Carney Starts Walking Back The Claim That The Anti-Islam Video Inspired The Riots September 19, 2012
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney took the first steps towards fully walking back the absurd claim that the Libyan riots were caused by an anti-Islam video.
"We have provided information about what we believe was the precipitating cause of the protests and violence, based on the information that we have had available," Carney said.
Catch the wiggle room?
Here's more from Carney: "...reaction to the video was the precipitating factor in protests and violence across the region, and what I'm also saying is that we made that assessment based on the evidence we have... at this time
Ah. "At this time".
Carney made these statements just a couple of days after UN Ambassador Susan Rice appeared on all the Sunday morning talk shows to essentially double-down on stupid by claiming that the attacks were, in fact, a response to the anti-Islam video.
And this initial attempt at a walk-back also comes on the heels of a major foreign policy gaffe of President Obama himself. Last week, he told Telemundo that Egypt is not our ally. That one had to be "clarified" later on.
The whole "Egypt is not our ally" gaffe, of course, went largely unreported in the lamestream media because they don't want to make the President look bad right before an election.
And we predict that when the "video caused it" narrative is fully walked back, the willing lapdogs in the media will develop a case of selective amnesia. They will completely forget that this administration emphatically blamed a video for the death of a U.S. ambassador.
We won't forget.
