Another Reason The U.S. Is #1: We're The Only Ones Who Harass Globaloney Evangelists September 10, 2012

Leave it to us awesome Americans to engage in critical thinking, while the rest of the world is told what to believe.

Does that sound too jingoistic? Well, that's what the good folks over at ThinkProgress are saying. In an article entitled "America Is Only Nation Where Climate Scientists Face Organized Harassment", somebody with the weird name of "Climate Guest Blogger" writes that only here in the U.S. do scientists who promote globaloney face harassment.

"While outspoken scientists of human-caused climate change in the United States endure torrents of freedom of information requests, hate mail and even death threats from skeptics, their counterparts abroad have been free to do their work without fear," Mr. Blogger states.

While we certainly condemn the death threats (and hopefully our opposition will concede that death threats are not unique to the conservative movement), we are happy to see that people are looking at climate issues with a questioning mind.

Hey, an open mind. Isn't that what liberals say they're all about?

And what has caused so many of us totally cool Americans to question man-made global warming climate change? Oh, yeah. That whole "ClimateGate" thing which occured back in 2009. This was when emails from scientists were hacked and made public to show that they were skewing the stats in favor of man-made climate change and that they were intimidating scientists who dared to disagree with their conclusions.

Mr. Blogger doesn't like how ClimateGate actually inspired people to think about things: "Climategate... 'had a significant impact' on public opinion... During that scandal, U.S. skeptics pounced mainly on emails written by Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University, as evidence that he and others were overstating the human influence on global warming. In a yet-to-be-published Yale study, nearly 13 percent of on-the-fence Americans in 2010 said climategate reduced their trust in climate science and in scientists..."

A closed mind is a terrible thing to waste, Mr. Blogger.
