It was quite the August for House Speaker John Boehner.

The Ohio Republican raised roughly $4 million for Republican congressional candidates, his political operation announced Sunday.

The disclosure came at the front end of the Republican National Convention, where Boehner's fundraising bonanza is wrapping up. He's set to make his first public appearance Monday at a lunch with reporters sponsored by The Christian Science Monitor.

The fundraising haul came after a month of hefty travel that Boehner insiders say was his most aggressive schedule of events in his 21 years in Congress. He attended 47 events in 23 days, trekking across 9,126 miles, his political staff said.
