New Campaign Strategy: Obama Will Simply Deny Being In Office For The Past Three Years June 14, 2012
CHICAGO—The Obama re-election campaign will attempt yet another strategy to ensure that the President gets a second term: The campaign will simply deny that Barack Obama ever served a first term.
Speaking on condition on anonymity, a high-ranking Obama campaign official named Stephanie Cutter said: "We've decided that, because the economy is doing so poorly and the deficit has skyrocketed so much, it's probably best if we just deny that President Obama was President for the last three years."
"We plan on telling Americans that George W. Bush served a third term," Cutter continued. "That way, we can continue to blame everything on him, and it's more likely that people will believe it."
Cutter said that she hoped that Americans had forgotten about the Constitutional Amendment which prohibits Presidents from serving three consecutive terms.
"We also find it easier to run against Bush's policies this way," Cutter continued. "We can say that the Bush tax cuts were terrible fiscal policy that got us into this economic mess, and then not have to worry about pesky facts like the fact that President Obama extended the Bush tax cuts."
"Team Obama is in complete agreement that this is the best strategy," Cutter continued. "When we told Joe Biden about it, he was like, 'Wait. We actually WON that election in 2008?' So he's definitely on board."
"We're going to have to work with the members of the media to ensure that we can sell the story that Obama was never elected in 2008," Cutter continued. "But, for some reason, they always seem happy to report our talking points as actual news, so we're pretty sure that it will be an easy task."
"President Obama will simply ignore all Presidential responsibilities from now until November," Cutter said. "But since he's campaigning almost 100% of the time now anyway, no one will notice."
