Obtuse Meathead Praises PRIVATE Sector Unions After Walker Victory June 6, 2012
|
In a Gawker article today, author Hamilton "Meathead" Nolan makes it clear that he hasn't been paying attention.
The article is entitled "Why We Need Unions" and follows the usual left-wing approach of praising unions, in spite of the Walker victory over unions last night.
For example, Meathead Nolan writes: "If the workers cannot turn to the government to protect them from the unrestrained predations of corporate capitalism, then the workers must find a way to protect themselves."
And the entire article, with the exception of the first sentence, follows that line: The People vs. Capitalism.
The problem with that, of course, is that Scott Walker didn't take on private sector unions.
He took on public sector unions.
You know, the unions whose members already work for the government.
So there was no "corporate capitalism" involved in the Wisconsin recall debate. It was all about union members who worked for non-profit government entities.
So why are those unions necessary, Meathead?
Oh, we know the answer: So taxpayer dollars can, in the form of union dues, be funneled straight to the coffers of The Democratic Party.
And if you trust the government to protect union members from "corporate capitalism", then why don't you trust the government to treat its own employees correctly without the need for unions?
Again, we know the answer. See above.
We'll leave aside, for now, Meathead Nolan's lack of faith in capitalism, which characterizes most Democrats.
And, given the fact the completely missed the point of last night's victory for Walker, we don't think he'd understand the rebuttal anyway.
