Dems Argue Amongst Themselves About How To Define 'Rich' May 25, 2012
|
We really hate it when Democrats argue with each other.
Why can't they all just get along?
At issue: Taxation.
Democrats, being Democrats, have to make good on their boneheaded promises to raise taxes on "the rich".
One small problem: They can't seem to agree on how to define "the rich".
Nancy Pelosi wants to extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone making $1 million per year or less.
President Obama wants the lower threshold at $250,000 per year.
And Senate Dems are still arguing amongst themselves about where to draw the line.
And that's one of the many problems with the class warfare campaign strategery that Democrats have adopted: No one has defined "rich".
We view "rich" as a relative term. Being able to drive to the corner McDonald's and grab a Quarter Pounder meal for $6 is considered privileged to people who live in impoverished countries.
We believe that "rich" is also time-relative. The simple fact is that America's middle-class today is much more well-to-do than the middle-class of the 1950s.
And then there's John Stossel's report about "the poor" in America and how well-to-do they actually are.
So even leaving the economics of taxing "the rich" aside, it seems that Democrats have a problem with defining the terms.
And we hope that it takes them decades to resolve their internal disputes about that.
