Beer Company: It's Okay To Pound Someone's Face Repeatedly, Just Don't Say Gays Are Stupid April 27, 2012
Anheuser-Busch shares its corporate values in the form of a warning.
The company is a sponsor of Ultimate Fighting Championship, a mixed-martial arts organization known for offering entertainment in the form of two guys pounding on each other until somebody wins. These fights take place in an octagon-shaped arena which is usually surrounded by thousands of screaming fans.
And now the beer company is mad, really mad, because some of those fighters have said (gasp!) bad things about gays.
Meanwhile, somewhere in middle America, a 12 year old is watching a UFC match in which an adult man punches another adult man in the face repeatedly. Each round of this fight features a nearly naked woman prominently displaying the round number. And, oh yeah, that 12-year-old will see beer advertisements as well.
Now, we're not prudish over here. But we say all this just to highlight Anheuser-Busch's selective outrage.
Especially considering that the company offers a product which runs contrary to the values of millions of people.
The company also seems to be completely divorced from reality with its concern. The UFC is a testosterone-laden organization dominated by very tough guys who take pride in their hyper-masculinity.
No one should be surprised that these guys would ridicule men who prefer rectal intercourse with other men.
This outrage also reminds us of the recent controversy with Battlefield 3, a video game. That game was criticized for its "homophobic language."
In case you're one of the very normal people who doesn't know anything about Battlefield 3, it's a war game featuring people killing each other. And a lot of profanity. And it's played by adolescent (and younger) kids.
While we're certain some anti-violence groups have issues with violent video games, that's not what caused the general outrage with Battlefield 3. Nor was it the profanity.
It was the anti-gay language.
Wholesome values are taking a back seat to the value set promoted by leftist agitators.
And that is sad.
