Allen West: Barney Frank Should Be In A Pink Jumpsuit April 26, 2012

Heads up! This is your daily "another reason to love Allen West" article!

Dave Weigel over at Slate reports on Robert Draper's new book, Do Not Ask What Good We Do (an appropriate title for a book about Congress if ever there was one, by the way).

While reporting about "Allen West: Asterisk With A Bayonet", Mr. Weigel mentions that Allen West once called Barney Frank "a guy who for all practical purposes should be in a pink jumpsuit for what he did.".

We won't pretend to read Rep. West's mind. But we think that by "what he did", he is referring to that 1989 scandal when Barney Frank admitted that he was in a relationship with a gigolo who ran a prostitution ring out of his home.

As if being gay wasn't weird enough. A prostitution ring? Really?!?

He did get a reprimand for that. But no jail time. And no pink jumpsuit.

Sidebar: We don't think that the pink jumpsuit would be necessary. A lot men in prison suddenly discover gay sex and it's useless to point out the fact that Barney Frank discovered it before prison.

And we also remember, with some degree of fondness, that other reprimand he got from one Dick Armey. Dick Armey committed a verbal (Freudian?) gaffe by referring to Barney Frank as "Barney Fag" in 1995. We're sure that the co-hosts on Crossfire had some fun with that one!

So the whole point of Robert Draper's book is to convince us (as though we didn't know already) that the current Congress is really bad. And while we're sure he does a great job with that task, he also reminds us that there is currently one very bright, shining light in Congress.

His name is Allen West.
