Obama In NC: What Gay Marriage Issue? April 25, 2012
Yesterday, President Obama delivered a speech in North Carolina. You'd think that while speaking there, he might have something to say about gay marriage, since a referendum on that issue is coming up for a vote in couple of weeks.
But if you thought that, you'd be wrong.
His entire remarks are here. Nary a word about gay marriage, "marriage equality", that gays should be entitled to the same privileges as straights, etc.
And not too many people in the lamestream media are complaining about that, either.
Obama has opposed gay marriage publicly. More recently, he's said he's "evolving" on the issue, which of course is a wink to gay rights activists (not the kind of wink that many of them are looking for, though).
When Obama says he's "evolving", they all get what he means. He's really saying, "I'm totally in favor of gays getting married, I just can't say so publicly."
Because if he does say so publicly, he knows he's in danger of losing some swing states. Like, for example, North Carolina.
And we get what he means, too. He's a hypocrite. He knows that supporting gay marriage is a loser politically, so he walks the tightrope of trying to appease the queers as much as possible (gays in the military), while trying at the same time to not appear an enemy to family values.
Obama is saying to gays what he said to Medvedev: "I'll have more flexibility after election."
Not the kind of flexibility that they're looking for, though.
